Senator Pat McCarran, a Las Vegas native who made significant contributions to aviation development both locally and nationally, was honored with the airport being named after him.

McCarran International Airport has 92 gates spread over 2 terminals, 4 runways, 5 concourses, and a total of 5 levels. Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines all have hubs at the airport.

There are also 10 car rental agencies located at the airport: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Sixt, Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty, and Payless. Buses painted blue and white transport passengers between Terminals 1 and 3 and the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center. Follow indications to Ground Transportation on Level 1 from Terminal 1 Baggage Claim. Driving in and around McCarran International Airport

Most people think of the Strip's famed neon lights and attractions when they think of Las Vegas. However, while the Boulevard has lots to offer, the rest of the city has plenty to offer as well. Read on to discover some of the best places you can drive to from the airport:

The Strip

After you've driven down Las Vegas Boulevard South and passed the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, you'll be on the Strip in no time. This well-known artery is the focal point of each trip to Las Vegas. Paris, The Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, The Luxor's pyramid and sphinx, and the Grand Canal at The Venetian are all shown here. When in Las Vegas, go north to the Strat Hotel, Casino & SkyPod Casino, which has the country's tallest free-standing observation tower, for the perfect photo opportunity. As you leave the airport, hop on the McCarran Airport Connector and use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto E Tropicana Ave. Turn right onto Las Vegas Blvd S and you’ll be at The Strip in 10 minutes.

Red Rock Canyon

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area may be found about 17 miles west of Las Vegas in the town of Boulder City. You'll see the beautiful Mojave Desert and its trademark red hills as you drive the 13-mile scenic road through the desert. Recommendations from recent visitors include bringing water and getting out of the car to see what's around. If you want to stay on track, pick up a map at the tourist center. Red Rock Canyon is just a 21-minute drive from the airport. Get on I-215 W from McCarran Airport Connector, then take Co Rd 215 W to Hughes Park Drive E in Summerlin South. Take exit 26 and drive to W Charleston Blvd towards Scenic Loop Dr.

The Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam spans the Colorado River and the Black Canyon and is located about 35 miles south of Las Vegas. The enormous concrete tower has been used to generate power in Nevada, Arizona, and California since 1935. Apart from supplying electricity, the Hoover Dam is a popular tourist destination in the United States, drawing over a million visitors each year. Tours of the Visitor Center are $10 and are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. In the Exhibit Gallery, visitors may explore an interactive generator model, or watch a 10-minute documentary film on the dam. Visit the observation deck for a bird's eye view of the massive structure, Lake Mead, and the Colorado River. From the airport, get on I-215 E and I-11 S/US-93 S to NV-172. Take exit 2 towards Hoover Dam Access Rd. You’ll reach in 38 minutes.
